I am a Google fan. I have been using Google products on other websites for quite a few years, use Gmail/docs(now drive)/calender etc, and went to Android for my cell over the other options. Pretty much once I discovered Google Apps I had planned to use it for the blog. So today as I was bringing the site up and learning how to tweak WordPress I decided it was time to get my Google Apps set up. We could all begin writing articles and use the awesome collaboration tools to have some quality proofed articles ready to go.
Google’s stance was: “Google Apps does not currently support this domain name.” I was baffled!
After a couple hours of research I have learned that Google Apps has a filter. It makes sense, they do not want to support certain content or particularly horrible names. But surely all awesome Google, who has terrifyingly brilliant bots which read websites to see if they make sense and are effectively well written, can determine if a site is actually “bad” or not? Nope, simple filter that blocks certain words. Some quality time spent on the registration page taught me the filter is really simple. You can slip in quite a bit with a bit of creativity regardless of the actual or potential content of the site.
So now I wait and hope some person on the Apps forums has a real answer on using Apps for this site other than “Register a new domain name.”
